HAPPY FATHER's DAY

to all you Dads, Granddads, Great Granddads and Dads to be--Have a Wonderful Day.

Success

Well, I did it. Or I should say, we did it. My riding partner and I completed the 35 mile trip on our bikes in 3.5 hours, including the two scheduled rest stops. So riding time was around 3 hours.

No sore muscles. Just a little tired and a lot hungry. Though I will admit that I am happy I didn't sign up for the 65 mile tour. 35 miles was just about my limit.

What I found amazing was that the 65 mile group left an hour before we did, and at about an hour into our ride several from that first group passed us on their way back. Several of the 65 milers did their ride in 3.5 hours or less. They had to average 20mph or better, given all the traffic lights all the riders had to deal with. Talk about fast. I averaged around 12mph, getting up to 21mph only a couple of times. And I thought I was doing pretty good.

We had a lot of fun, met gads of wonderful people, and most importantly helped out a worthy cause.

I will likely do this again next year. I might even go for the 65 mile tour. :-)

And Tomorrow We Ride

And it looks the weather will be nice. Probably Hot. Thankfully we start early in the morning.

Wish me luck.

And thank you again for the donations. The total so far is $430. Much, much more than I expected, but still I just have to ask--Anyone care to turn it into an even $500?? :-)

Seriously, last minute donations are still very welcome. Just click on the Big Red Thermometer in the sidebar. It will link you to the donation page.

Tour de Cure training update

The first thing I would like to say is Thank You to everyone who has donated so far. With your generous help we have more than doubled the original $150 goal that I set. Much better than I expected to do. The ride is next Saturday, so if you would still like to donate, but haven't had a chance to do so, please do. Just click on the thermometer in the sidebar and it will take you directly to the donation page. Or, you can donate any time of the year by going to the ADA site and just making a donation to their cause.

Training is going well, though I am sorely behind schedule. At least I am not suffering from sore muscles or seat. :-) Yesterday we did 16.5 miles, half of it against the wind. Time? About 1.5 hrs. I'm suffering no ill effects this morning, though I think I will pick up a pair of gloves before the ride. We estimate that the ride will take about 3-4 hours on Saturday (including the stops and gos that come with city streets). It might be less if we had started training sooner, but this isn't a race. It is a challenge.
