Yet another movie
Memoirs of a Geisha:: Powerful and a little sad, with a satisfying ending. I have no idea how well it compares to the novel. I haven't had a chance to read the book yet, it's still sitting on the top of my to be read stack.

Spielberg didn't make this movie. He made Munich. He'd been in talks to make Geisha for several years, which is probably what you're recalling, but it was directed by Rob Marshall. Spielberg is one of nine producers, and I doubt he actually did very much considering Munich's accelerated shooting schedule, right on the heels of War of the Worlds.
I haven't seen Geisha yet but plan to. Munich is excellent and I highly recommend it.
