Silence
As in I've lost my voice--totally for the last three days, much to the amusement of my fellow employees. I'm just starting to be able to whisper. It's very inconvenient--try using sign language to get your stubborn "I like to pretend I don't hear Mommy when she calls" dog to come in--, but I have to agree with my friends, the situation is funny. And if I could laugh, I would. :-)
And, on top of that, I'm on call for jury duty this week. Luckily, I don't have to go in tomorrow--not because I have a problem with serving, but because of the lack of voice.
Meanwhile the possibilities for the hiking tour are being narrowed down. A friend and I are in the slow process of planning a 2-3 week trip for later this year. Right now it looks like France, or more specifically about a week site seeing in Paris, a week hiking in the Pyranese (or at least the foothills), and whatever is left of the alloted time doing more site seeing. If I have that wrong, I'm certain I will soon be corrected. Plans are still very flexible, and I have lots of questions.
I am doing everything I can to get into decent shape and condition for the hiking tour. That means losing weight too. And no, I'm not going to say how much, but I'm a sixth of the way there. With luck, and a lot of hard work, I'll be at least a third of the way there by the end of the month.
Any suggestions on what to see while in Paris? The Eifel Tower, of course, is a given.

Wow, sounds like fun, Zara! Any more specifics that you could offer for us lookey-loos?
Heck there is a possibility we might be in France at the same time (when will you be there?), although I will miss Paris.
David, you're going to France too?! When? Where? Maybe we can arrange to bump into each other. :-)
I haven't decided when I will be there for certain, yet. Probably sometime in June or September.
I'm still trying to decide between two different treks that were suggested to me by a friend.
Once I figure that out, and when, I'll build the rest of my itinerary around the trek.
FootSteps of the Cathars
Mountains to Med
Sorry you'll miss Paris. I hear it's a great place to visit.
Interesting treks, Zara. In fact, very interesing.
I have been to Paris many times; although I am always happy to visit the city, I will have limited time this go-round.
I have a friend who owns a ranch-style B&B in the Perigord region of France; because his place is close to my destination, I consider visiting him (and his place) as a means to get past the inevitable jet lag before moving on to the other areas of France. So much to see and do...
So, you are off to see Paris. What is on your itinerary?
Nice to have friends in far away places. :-)
Where is your friend's B&B located?
The Perigord region, if I remember correctly, is supposed to be beautiful. And, I think I recall that there are a lot of castles, as well as prehistoric sites, abbeys, and even a few interesting caves. (Isn't it also known for its walnuts?) It's also not that far from where I hope to go trekking.
Alas, so far, I have no trip itinerary. It is, at the moment, very flexible, and I fear there is the slight possibility that I may be going alone, or, perhaps, not at all.
How long do you plan on being in France this time?
If you find the treks interesting, and you have the time, perhaps you'd like to join me on one. (They depart from Montpellier.) Friendly company is always welcome. :-)

Hmm, 'tis possible I could join you, Zara.
The treks are each only ~1 week, which is not too long. And the Cathars trek looks quite interesting -- history, culture, scenery, and walking from town to town. Sounds nice.
I will be in France in early June. And you?
Early June, as well.
It would be great if you could join me.
Traveling alone has never been one of my favourite things to do. It's not as much fun if there is nobody else there to share the experience with. Even seeing a friend for part of the trip would be better than not at all.
So, I hope we can meet up for one of these treks. I favour the Cathars trek myself.
I also hope I can figure out the transit system and the trains. I'm not very good at that, at least not in Europe. I couldn't understand the systems in either Germany or Scotland.
Pretty bad, huh. :-)
Ya know, I've decided that e-mail is a tricky form of communication. I can say something that I believe is perfectly harmless, and maybe meant to be helpful, and it is interpreted by the person on the other end of the conversation in a completely different way. Trust me, I do this a lot. And it works both ways, although, for some reason, most of the people I e-mail don't seem to think so. Still I often misinterpret what they say as well.
So, where is this leading, and what the heck does it have to do with this topic? Ah, well, not much I suppose. Then maybe everything.
I had some questions about my upcoming trip with a friend (to France, of course). I wasn't certain how much of the trip we were planning on being together, so I wanted to clarify. The best way to do this, I thought, was to ask my friend what their current proposed itinerary was. I was right, that answered the major questions, well except for date and trek. I'm leaning toward the Cathars trek and have been from the beginning, I think my friend is too, but my friend found the treks, and I could do either, so I thought I would let my friend choose. And I wanted to be helpful by letting my friend know that the Mountains trip was almost full.
Well, I guess all that came out of my fingers wrong, because I now have a very strong feeling that I won't be seeing my friend while in France, at all. I did try to explain, though I'm not certain my friend is speaking or typing to me at the moment, so that explanation may well be floating out there in the ether.
At any rate, I have to head out right now, but I will post my proposed itinerary a little later this morning.
And, David, I would most definitely like to have your company along on the Cathars trek, if you'd like to go in June. There's only one June time slot. You can find that under bookings at the link for the trip. And hopefully, that was a clear communication without any misunderstandings. :-)
